Happy New Years - Dining Table

Happy Happy New Years

When I thought of designing my New Years Day table, bright whites and glistening silvers came to my mind. Something about this combination gave it a fresh look, which is perfect for starting a new year.

I didn't have silver place mats, but I wanted my theme to carry across the table well. I used silver paper plates under the white plates and bowls from IKEA. To have a fancy table isn't all about spending, it's about utilising and getting creative with what's hiding around your house.

The place cards were another sale find from Selfridges in 2014. Coming in under 50p at further reductions, great as always!

The disposable table cloth is from Asda for £2. It's so easy to wipe clean, especially if you ever host for children.
The napkin holders are from Next, coming in a set of 4, with detail of hammered metal.

Some of the ornaments seen in the images above I used in previous posts, have a look back if you haven't seen it already

My colour schemes are usually inspired by something that catches my eye and from that I refine it by adding complimenting details that relate to that holiday or special occasion.

The standout pots of popcorn came from Tiger in a set of 10 or 12, with a selection of polka dot and striped packets. They inject a little fun into the table and a celebratory touch, after all it is a happy holiday!

Thanks once again and for joining me with more festive tips, sale picks and creative ways to host your meals throughout the holidays.

A Little Cheese & Festive Cheer

If your anything like me you spent the last few days forgetting what day it was by indulging in left overs, spending time with family and falling asleep watching movies like Miracle On 34th Street.

In between all that goodness I found time to set the table and sit down with the family to enjoy wine, cheese and of course, chutney.

Wreaths are traditionally seen on doors, but my sister made it at
Grace & Thorn, she decided it would make a great centre piece for the table, and it sure was.
Putting it on the Lazy Susan made it stand out our oval shaped table.

The four white reindeer pieces were a great find in the Sale at Selfridges at 20p each! Sounds ridiculous, but honestly, I get a thrill out of these bargain finds!

Cholocate coins are great for sprucing up the table so I lined the wreath with them.

On Christmas Day, one of our gifts was a a beautiful package from my family in Derby by Morgan's Deli. It was in a lovely wooden basket lined with hay and wrapped in cellophane. It had a Sweet Chilli Relish, Cheedar Cheese and one of my favourites, Brie.

We used our cheese boards from pervious years (keep them!) and took out our cheese knive.
Not only are the boards good for serving the obvious (cheese), they serve cakes and loaves of bread just as well.

Thanks once again and I'll be back for more festive tips, sale picks and creative ways to host your meals throughout the  holidays.

Christmas Table Decor

Merry Christmas!

As the day is gone and people are still in a festive mood of holiday parties and the New Years celebrations swiftly approaching I want to show you a few things to do over the holidays that will transform your average table spread into a luxurious one.

Rule number one - Shop the sale!
So these wonderful beaded snowflake place card holders and napkins were purchased in the NEXT sale. The placecard holders came with pieces of card, which I believe made a lovely personal touch.

I picked up the mini crackers at Selfridges, in the sale of course. This was one of my best purchases as its not too big, understated, but a wonderful detail with fun questions inside. Plus, I paid less than a £1 for a pack.

Now IKEA do some amazing lights where you tend to have the option of hanging or  using them on a table, which is what I decided to do.

Table Cloths and runners.
Places like Next, Asda and IKEA have a wide range that is definitely value for money.
The decanter/vase was purchased at Asda it's a fancy way to pour your drinks.

Centre to the table is a glass bowl of various balls. The great thing about having a neutral colour is that you can use it all year round and when Christmas comes round or even Easter you can add different colours relative to that special time of the year.

I'll be back soon with more tips, sale picks and creative ways to host your meals throughout the holidays.
